ACT Private Tutors For Foreign Students

act private tutors

Each year the number of foreign students that arrive to the United States to attend colleges and universities continues to grow.  In recent years, nearly one million individuals arrived for their higher education.  In fact, the United States holds the top spot for international students looking to study outside their homelands.

This influx of students every year contributes tremendously to the United States’ economy, while offering students the chance to choose their major and place to study.  Many countries do not allow their students this luxury, but rather have all high school students take a national exam where scores will be the basis for entrance into specific universities. Besides the advantages that foreign students have in pursuing their own interests when studying in the United States, classrooms are enriched and diversified by their presence and contributions.

The path to acceptance for foreign students is much the same as for Americans.  Steps for the admissions process includes:

  • Completion of the university’s application
  • Credential evaluations which need translation and verification of the official status of the school(s) you previously attended
  • Standardized test score

The last requirement on the list can be a tough one for many foreign students.  Luckily, if you work with an ACT private tutor from SAT Preparation Group, you can maximize your test day score.

ACT Exam Fundamentals

With the exclusion of breaks, the ACT exam runs for three and a half hours and tests these five subject areas in separate 30-60 minute sections:

  • English
  • Math
  • Reading
  • Science
  • Writing

Students who like to focus on a particular subject for a stretch of time and then move on to a different one, find the ACT’s structure more appealing than other standardized tests.

You are able to earn a score ranging from 1-36 on each section of the ACT, which then is averaged out to get your overall score.  Only about 1% of test takers earn a score of 34. 35. or 36.  In addition, the exam does not penalize for incorrect answers.

The ACT is offered six times a year during the months of September, October, December, February, April, and June.  It can be taken in the United States as well as internationally.  More information about registration and fees can be gathered by visiting the ACT website.

Individualized Prep Tutoring

No matter if you were an exceptional student in high school and one who was involved in extracurricular activities, no admissions package will stand out if it lacks a noteworthy ACT score.  In fact, the higher your score, the more options for colleges and universities you have.  Therefore, given the importance that rides on getting a top score on the ACT exam, the best route for test preparation is with a dedicated ACT private tutor.

For foreign students in particular, the ACT exam may seem rather unfamiliar because of the different programs of study that exist as compared to those students who attended high school in the United States.  Our prep tutors could get you up prepared by:

  • Offering plenty of exposure to typical problems and questions that can be expected on exam day
  • Personalizing teaching methods that cater to your strengths and areas of challenge
  • Coaching in test taking strategies and time management skills
  • Providing flexible scheduling for in-person or online tutoring sessions that fit best with your routine
  • Frequently adjusting instruction to match with your levels of understanding rather than following a set regimen
  • Honing in on the learning gaps which may exist because of the differences in international high schools
