SAT Prep FAQs: Recommended Books for SAT Prep

We like to say that the best books to use for SAT and ACT preparation are those written by the actual test makers. The College Board puts out a book called The Official SAT Study Guide and the ACT organization provides The Real ACT Prep Guide.  These organizations are the definitive experts on their own tests and therefore make their practice tests just like the real test themselves.  That is why we only recommend books from the test makers.

Other companies not related to the College Board or ACT often embellish and make questions that are more ego than reality.  So stay away from these because the difference in content can create discomfort when the actual test arrives.  The only other book company that we recommend for practice tests when students complete the College Board or ACT guides and are hungry for more is McGraw-Hill because they do a very good job of emulating actual practice tests as close as possible.
